Today was a beautiful day! High in the low 60s…

More tulips coming up!

Awesome!

What a great week this has been! Well, other than getting my sleep schedule back on track from the time change. But it has been so worth it to have sunlight in the evenings now. And, we have some of our lawn making a reappearance after the winter!

Finally! The snow is really starting to melt away. And we are supposed to have temperatures in the mid to high 50s this afternoon.  So how much of this snow will be gone by this afternoon? A lot, we hope!!

Look! Only a few inches left!! (Except for the piles near the road, but those always take longer to go in the spring.)

The snow around our flagpole is almost gone. Will it be gone by tonight? And, are the tulips already growing under there? We shall see – soon, I hope!

It has been so great to be able to get outside with only our spring coats this week. It is the one bright spot of living through a north country winter – the great feeling that comes with a north country spring! Someone made a comment about our lack of gloves and other cold weather gear the other day while we were barbequing. I rarely wear gloves, and even more rarely wear a hat, even during the winter. Basically the only time I wear gloves is after a work day when it’s been snowing, while I’m clearing the car off before the trip home. But truly, one strange thing about having high temps in the 20s for 2 –3 months straight – 46 degrees really does feel warm. I don’t know how long that will take to change when we start traveling and are down in warmer areas for the winter, but I will let you know when it happens!!

More Signs

Of Spring, that is!

It was a balmy 46 degrees this evening and we decided to take advantage of the nice temperatures…

…to cook on the barbeque for the first time this season!

If you look in the background of the pictures, you can see the snow is hanging on.

But the sunshine is attempting to do its job. You can see from the darker area where the snow has receded just since this morning. AND…

…my tulips are coming up around the lamppost!! I love tulips! Definitely my favorite flower, probably because they mean the nicer weather is coming.

 

Last year actually they didn’t do too well, I think because it got so warm so quickly. The sun just cooked them, and a lot of the buds never even opened. It does not appear that “too hot, too soon” will be an issue this year.

YUM! First barbeque meal of the year!!

Go Away Snow!

At the risk of being a broken record, you can tell by the title of my blog tonight that I’m still hoping that this snow goes away soon!

It’s receding and shrinking…but neither of those processes are happening fast enough for me. I just watched the weather and we have a 60 in the forecast for this week! So I am really hoping that this snow will be gone by the weekend.

By this time of year, the snow banks have no remnants of fresh color left. They are dirty and old looking, if that makes any sense.

There have been a few signs of spring over the past few days. I saw geese the other day, but they were hard to catch in a picture!

And I don’t know if you can tell in this picture, (I tried to zoom in a bit), but the ends of these branches are coming alive with a reddish color – buds should be appearing soon.

Winter has been long, so I am so looking forward to the feeling of energy and revitalization that I know will be coming in the next weeks as the sun appears again and things begin to grow.

(22 days until vacation!)

Daylight Savings Time

There’s been a lot of discussion in recent days about opinions on daylight savings time. This morning (actually, last night) we followed the “spring forward” instruction to move our clocks one hour ahead. The downside of that is the loss of one hour’s sleep. I have to admit, it takes me several days to get used to the change in time before my body acclimates. It always amazes me what a difference one hour makes for most of the week that follows. But the upside is worth it! The upside is daylight! I am so looking forward to having daylight in the evenings from now on.

It has been a little warmer for the past few days – meaning low 40s. But we still have snow cover in the yard. There are places now in the area where the snow has melted and we are able to see grass! But not in our yard yet. We still have at least 12 – 18 inches of snow remaining. <sigh>

Other than the snow melt watch, there isn’t much going on around here. We have 23 days until vacation, and I can’t wait! We have our trip planned, our hotels booked, our cabin reserved. With the somewhat warmer weather, I’ve been thinking about looking for my capris…shorts…sandals and…. Do you think it’s too early to start packing?

And More Rain

It rained most of the day yesterday and is still raining this morning. We are very glad that we don’t live next to water of any sort. They are talking on the news this morning about places in the area that are flooding, but we have been spared. Sometimes if the snow melts fast enough we do get water in the basement, but it’s not melting fast enough for that so far. I guess with the cold weather we had over the winter, the snow is a lot like one big block of ice, and is taking a long time to go down. We still have 2 to 3 feet of snow in our front yard. With highs in the 40s and even (gasp!) low 50s coming up over the next week, I am still hoping that my guess of March 19th for most of the snow being gone could possibly end up being accurate.

Things are going well for the condo sale. As far as I know, there’s nothing left to be done but the title stuff and whatever other legal behind the scenes work there is that goes on at the bank etc. to prepare for the closing. So we are just waiting to find out a closing date, which we probably won’t know until mid-April. What a great feeling it is going to be to sign those papers!

Other than that, there’s not much going on around here. Almost another week over and down to 3 and a half weeks (otherwise known as 26 days) to vacation and the trip to the RV Dreams rally in Tennessee!!

Rain’s A-Comin’

According to the weather guy. Whose record this winter has not been the best. The first part of the forecast does not seem to have transpired. Overnight there was a chance of a few inches of wet snow, but it doesn’t look like it’s done much at all – this is a good thing!! As far as rain, I would like enough to start washing this white stuff away – but not enough to do flooding damage! I don’t want too much do I? Tomorrow’s high is forecast to be in the 50s!!!!!! Ahh! Come on, Spring, you can do it!!

Spa day yesterday seems to have been a success.

I don’t know how evident it is in the above picture, but the groomer got out a lot of excess fur!

I think he’s saying, stop following me around with that camera!

So yesterday was a busy day off. I had a physical first thing in the morning (all systems are running appropriately), Crookshanks’ spa appointment, and I did a little shopping to make veggie lasagna for dinner. Which was really good, if I do say so myself!
