Laid Back Cold Day

Location: Pine Grove, PA (High 39, Low 32)

Are we ever looking forward to getting somewhere warmer!! We stayed put yesterday, as areas to the south were getting snow. It didn’t snow here, but stayed damp all day.

We didn’t do very much, hung out and watched some more of our dvr’d shows. At this rate, we might actually get caught up!

In the afternoon, Harry went outside and checked the tire pressure in preparation for our leaving. He also added some water to our tank since we won’t start using the fresh water connection until we get to South Carolina.

We are both looking forward to heading further south today. We hope to be in southern Virginia by later this afternoon!

Hanging Out

Location: Pine Grove, PA (High 34, Low 31)

Yesterday was a low-key day. We managed to stay in bed a little later, going back to sleep after waking up at our normal early time.

IMG_3916We spent much of the day just relaxing and watching some of our dvr’d programs.

Later in the morning, we went outside and Harry cleaned the slide toppers.

The pictures almost look black and white to me – it definitely was a gray kind of day.

After Harry finished up on the roof, we went for a cold walk. Although it was just warm enough that everything on the road was melting.

Last evening we went to a local restaurant with Darlene and Jim. They are future full-timers who live pretty close to the campground. We had a fun evening of chatting about all sorts of rv stuff. Thanks for a great time, Darlene and Jim!

Today we are hanging out in Pine Grove for one more day. After checking the weather forecast for towns south of us along our route, we decided to avoid the sloppy weather by waiting another day to continue our journey south. Tomorrow’s weather looks nice for traveling – sunny and highs in the low 40s.

Liftoff!

Location: Pine Grove, PA (High 38, Low 32)

IMG_3872Yesterday was a really nice traveling day. We had a pretty leisurely morning, although we were still up at our early 5 am rising time. (We plan to start working on changing that wakeup time pretty soon.) It was a cloudy day, but we were just glad that we were getting going ahead of the storm.

After a couple hours on the road, we said “so long” to New York State.

The campground is five miles from the exit, in quiet farm country.

The only wrinkle of the day came when we actually arrived at the campground and the office was closed, although the sign on the door said it was IMG_3888open.

After reading the signs on the door, we called the manager’s cell phone # and she directed us to an area where we could pick up a site number, and told us how to get through the gated entrance.

All’s well that ends well, as we were soon parked in our nice pull through site.

We were all ready to relax, especially the cats after their long, hard day of travel.

And we are very glad that we already had decided to stay in this campground for two days…

…because this is our view this morning.

We are hoping that we will soon have seen the last of this white stuff!!

Departure Day!

Location: Catskill, NY (High 47, Low 34)

Despite what our countdown says, we are not exactly on the road yet. We have a few hours yet before we get wheels on the road. I have to get a little coffee in me before I start tackling getting the insides all ready for the move. After watching the weather last night, we are getting on the road in the nick of time. There is snow in the forecast for tomorrow!

Yesterday was a very productive day. We headed to Albany bright and early, arriving at the DMV about ten minutes before opening time. There were already a number of people in line outside, so we were glad that we made the effort to get going right away. It probably would have been quick anyway though, as we found out that people who are just dropping off plates get to pass “go” (and everyone waiting in line) and proceed directly to the desk. We were in and out and on our way in about five minutes.

The rest of the day consisted of running errands, getting an oil change on the truck, settling our bill with the campground…it was a busy one.

We hope to be on the road today by 10 or 10:30, and have about a 4 hour trip ahead of us. Tomorrow is going to be sloppy in PA as well, so we will be sitting for a day, and then hope to head for Virginia on Thursday.

Next blog will be from Twin Grove Campground, PA.

Down to Hours!

Location: Catskill, NY (High 47, Low 37)

To say there’s a little excitement around here is an understatement. Tomorrow is departure day!! And the weather looks decent – tomorrow, and for the rest of our trip this week. If all goes well, we will be heading out tomorrow morning for PA. By the end of the week, we will be stopping in South Carolina for a little over a week. Just looked at the long range forecast for South Carolina, and those highs and lows look…oh, so nice!!

Yesterday was a bit more low key. We stopped over to my sister’s for a quick visit, and Harry took the pressure pro sensors off the tires before our trip for service today. We were going to try to sell the car before we left, but decided not to cram one more thing into this few days. So we left the car at my sister’s office and took the plates off. We will sell it this summer when we get back here.

lunchvalatieWe also had a nice visit and lunch with our friends Greg and Beth, who we met through the Heartland Owners Club. The picture was taken with my phone and it came out a little blurry for some reason. Thanks for a fun time guys!

Today we have a bunch of errands to run in Albany. Harry is enjoying the thought this morning that he doesn’t have to go to work, but we are still getting going at the same time. We are both looking forward to being down in South Carolina and having some time to relax and hang out! Won’t be long now!!

We leave TOMORROW!!

A Fun Day

Location: Catskill, NY (High 44, Low 36)

IMG_3840Yesterday was the occasion of our delayed Christmas celebration in MA.

We had fun opening our gifts, and then playing with our little guy for a few hours.

IMG_3853

Schaun is at the age where he does not like to have pictures taken, so I had to sneak a few when he wasn’t looking.

We had a great time, but it was too short. We are looking forward to being able to stay nearby for a longer period of time next summer when we get back up here.

IMG_3865The only part of the day that wasn’t so great was the driving. It was foggy the whole day in both directions. This was the view we had. Luckily most of the time it wasn’t a close fog, so we could at least see in front of the car. But still, not a fun traveling day.

I checked the weather for our travels this week, and it looks good. I’ve had a few comments about hanging loose, not setting up a schedule…that will come! When we get down south. Right now, we want to get things done and get out of the icebox – before it gets out of the defrost cycle we’re currently in!! Smile

TWO days left (or One day and Twenty some odd hours)!!

One Month

Location: Catskill, NY (High 38, Low 23)

It was one month ago today that we packed up our fiver and pulled out of the driveway for the final time. We have made it through a month of winter temps, and two snowstorms. The only time that I really found challenging was when our temperatures went below zero, mostly because of the frozen water line. Our fiver really does hold the heat very well. But, we are still looking forward to getting somewhere where the weather is warmer and the sun is shining. And, judging by our weather forecast for later next week, we are getting out of here in the nick of time.

Harry’s last day of work went great – although he said he was bored. Guess he didn’t have too much to do, go figure! It’s over now though, and he is on vacation/retirement.

We are definitely planning to leave Tuesday. Weather looks good, and it will still be relatively warm then. Monday will be our running around day. I have a list of last minute things we need to get done, and Harry has scheduled an oil change for the truck. I have excitement butterflies in my stomach. This is IT!

Two days….21 hours….to takeoff!!!
