Back to…You Know What!

Yeah, back to work and reality and all that good stuff.

Harry and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Lake George. We really were so lucky with the weather we had. We only had a couple showers later in the day once or twice, but there was plenty of time for walks and bike rides. It was a wonderfully relaxing time.

016A few impressions…we did not find the space inside confining at all. Taking out the two recliners that came with the rv and replacing it with a more comfortable one was a great move. We brought the cat tree into the living area from the house, and it fit great! I also think it made a huge difference for the cats, having their own space.

003

Of course Ariel managed to find a couple spaces to take over that I didn’t quite plan on leaving for her!

The cats adapted so much more easily than we expected.  They loved hanging out, watching all the squirrels and chipmunks running around. There was no crying, even on the first day – we were both so surprised.

As I mentioned a couple days ago, we loved our new Weber Q BBQ. Harry was outside cooking our dinner almost every day.

We also enjoyed sitting outside, enjoying the fresh air and reading.

017

Another impresson - we did not miss the house at all. I think maybe the one thing that we will miss is our nice shower with lots of water pressure. However, it’s definitely a trade off that we are willing to make.

Another BIG thing that we will love is having flexibility with our traveling schedule. On Thursday morning, we once again had the “fun” of packing up and heading out in the rain. Both of us remarked on how nice it will be to be able to adapt our timing according to the weather report. Since we both had to be back to work this morning, that wasn’t an option yesterday.

We did have something to look forward to today – the arrival of the truck box that Harry ordered a couple weeks ago.

018

We are so pleased. It fits perfectly and gives us so much additional storage space.

And now we are done for the time being – no more purchases until next spring! Unfortunately, no more trips either – our fiver has been moved back into her spot in the driveway. Barring any unforeseen development, she should be staying put now until probably next May. <sigh>

Today I made a new master list of stuff we need to get done this year and next – I believe it’s the final and complete draft of our list. But this blog entry is long enough for one day, so I shall leave that for next time.

Have a great evening everyone!

Another Relaxing Day

We have lucked out with our week here in Lake George.IMG_4894 So far the temps have been great, with highs in the 70s. And it’s been sunny, with the exception of a short storm coming through the area yesterday afternoon. We have taken several walks, and another bike ride.

003

It is really quiet here. Most of the campers left on Sunday, and of the ones who remained, most of them pulled out on Monday. There are still some rvs around us, but we think they might be seasonal ones, since the majority don’t seem to be occupied at the moment. So it’s been a wonderful experience of the outdoors. Very rarely does someone walk or drive by.

We have bbq’d every night and are enjoying our new Weber Q. We are both glad that we decided to order it so it would come before our week here.

IMG_4897

Today we went into the village of Lake George. Wow, what a difference from just a couple weeks ago. We knew it wouldn’t be too busy after Labor Day, but it was empty!

We didn’t have to fight too many people for this parking place!

IMG_4899

This afternoon, we read our kindles and I took a nap. As you can see, nothing exciting going on around here, but it’s been so great. Neither Harry nor I are missing the house.

001

And I don’t think the cats are either. Winking smile They have discovered there are a lot of interesting critters running around in them thar woods.

I am glad that we still have one more full day here before we have to think about heading back.

Could Get Used to This

We had a great first day here in Lake George. 022For much of the morning, we watched rigs drive by on their way out. The park went from being completely full to having a lot of empty sites.

We are tucked up into a site on a little rise.

019

Even if the site next door has someone in it, this site is kind of off by itself.

027

It was a little cool yesterday when we first got up. We tried out the fireplace, and as everyone has said, it was great for taking out the chill. We were surprised at how much heat it gave off, and I didn’t even really turn it up high.

We actually got out and got a little exercise. We went for a walk….026

and a bike ride….013

…and then we sat outside and read our kindles while we enjoyed an apple and some cream cheese dip.

017

Yes, I definitely could get used to this.

016

And both Harry and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well the cats have adapted. No crying, or waking us up all night. I thought they would do fine, but I expected it to take a couple days.

I wish our stay here was going to be for longer than just a few days, but we just keep saying, just a little over a year left. Until then, we’ll just have to keep “practicing.”

We Have Landed

Yesterday was a long day, but we made it! and are settled in a campsite in Lake George for the next 4 and a half days.

We were up early yesterday, and I was bringing out last minute items from the fridge and other things that we had needed in the house until it was almost time to head out for work. I managed to get all of the inside stuff ready to go, as well as the stuff we needed for the cats. Then it was off to work for me.

Harry used the time to finish up the outside stuff, getting the tires checked and all the other maintenance types of things done. He was ready to hit the road when I got home at 2:30. It was a little nerve-wracking making sure that all the details got done. It’s weird, because with the rv in the driveway, we have used it frequently over the last months and we felt like it hadn’t been that long since our last trip. But when we thought about it yesterday, we realized that this is the first time we’ve taken it out (other than the short inspection trip) since we came home from TN in June.

We got hooked up with no problem. Had a short difficulty with our bikes, since the first time we got them up on the rack, the end of the handlebar was right against the fiver. We ended up taking the bikes down and moving the rack, which worked better.

004And then we were on the road – at 3:45. Not bad considering when I got home from work. We are lucky that we only live an hour away from Lake George, so it was a quick and uneventful trip. The only drama happened when we actually got here –005 they didn’t have our reservation!! And there’s a car show here this weekend. There was a minute when we thought our trip might turn out to be pretty short. But the girl was great, and worked out something, and we got the LAST pull through site they had. 003There were only TWO sites left in the entire park, out of 430. So we feel very very thankful to have gotten this site.

By the time we got in, hooked up and settled, it was going on 8 o’clock, and I only took a few pictures, but more will be coming! Smile

This morning we are all settled in, feeling the comfortable heat from the fireplace, and watching the 9/11 memorial on tv. I can’t believe it has been 10 years since that day. And yet, it’s hard to remember what it was like before – like it was another lifetime.

Thinking today of all the people who lost a loved one that day.

Peace and Quiet

Harry took Schaun home this afternoon, and our house has returned to its usual quiet. It’s been raining much of the day, and there is a nice coolness to the air coming in the windows.

We now have three days left until our trip to Lake George. We are both looking forward to a break for a few days. So far the weather forecast is looking decent, at least through Monday.

We have used some of our car proceeds to buy a few of the items on our start up list. By the time we are ready to actually hit the road, we should have picked up most of what is on our list. At this point, we only have one major item left – some sort of pressure tire monitoring system. We are planning to buy that next spring before hopefully beginning a season of excursions with the fiver.

007So anyway, over the past couple of weeks, we’ve ordered a few things, and one of the items came today – our new Weber Q barbeque! After Harry got home from his trip with Schaun, he got busy opening up the boxes, and…

014

we are all ready for next week! If it weren’t so late in the season, we would try to sell our existing bbq, but I’m not sure if we will try now, or wait until next spring.

I’m working a few hours again tomorrow, so another busy day coming up. And it’s time to start getting clothes together for the trip. woohoo!!

A Long Weekend

Harry and I are enjoying the holiday weekend. We are staying put at home, but we are busy with our 2 year old company.

006

Schaun is talking a lot more than he was the last time he stayed at our house. The only difficulty is that we don’t always understand what he’s saying. So we end up responding with a lot of “uh huh”s and “really?”s. We have had a good laugh at what we could be saying “uh huh” and “really” to. One word he is saying very clearly is “grammy”. I never get tired of hearing that. It’s so great to hear grammy and papa all the time now.

001

Schaun and Papa never seem to get tired of playing with matchbox cars.

005

We went for a ride in the truck yesterday. I wish I had brought my camera to take a picture of Schaun’s expression. I think it’s probably the best view he’s had riding in a vehicle, just kept saying, wow. haha He is Harry’s grandson, for sure.

We have one more day with Schaun and then he will be heading home, and it will be time to get ready for a few days away with the fiver! I sure am looking forward to packing our bedroom and kitchen for the trip.

Summer Days are Waning

Yesterday Harry and I went over to Walmart for a little grocery shopping. On the way, I saw real honest to goodness fall foliage. Not just a few stray leaves – whole trees getting that burnt orange look. I didn’t have my camera with me, so no pictures. School will be starting next week, so soon we will be having the buses making their early morning runs through the neighborhood. Yes, summer is really just about over for another year.

We have now sold everything that we had listed over the past few weeks – the two recliners, the dishwasher, and my car. The buyers came and picked up the car this past Tuesday, and the driveway looks so much emptier with it gone. Our bank account is a little more full though, so that is some consolation, and we have paid off Harry’s car loan! YAY! One more debt out of the way.

It’s been another full week. I had a wisdom tooth pulled on Tuesday, yep there goes a little more of my smarts out the door. Winking smile One more dental procedure to go, and then hopefully that will be it for a while. I also worked again for part of the day yesterday, getting a little bit more of that overtime. I have at least one more six day work week coming up next week, and then we are going to have a few days off. We are both looking forward to that! We will actually be taking our first official trip with the fiver to Lake George. Hard to imagine that it has been two and a half months since we got back from TN. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long – the summer has gone by so quickly.

We are preparing for company this weekend. Harry will be going tomorrow to pick up our little guy. We have a fun, and busy, few days coming up.

PS I realized after I posted this that next week we have a holiday! Hurrah – only a five day work week after all! Glad that we get to celebrate labor by NOT working. Smile
