Leaps and Bounds!

Location: Catskill, NY (High 80, Low 66)

Leaps and bounds! That’s the way I feel this summer has been going by. I just can’t believe how fast the weeks are racing along.

IMG_2575The last time I wrote we had been up in the Adirondacks for a long weekend, and a half marathon in Lake Placid. After getting back to Catskill on that Monday, we stopped to have a little routine maintenance completed on the rig before pulling back into our spot here at Brookside Campground.

IMG_2591 I am really feeling settled in to our spot this year. We bought a stand to hang a hummingbird feeder from, and a hanging plant from the other side. For some reason just that little addition has made it feel so homey to me.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday we had various odds and ends to do around here, plus we went over to my sister’s office for part of one of the days. Harry worked at painting one section of the hallway, which looks really awesome.

On Thursday, we headed to Massachusetts for the beginning of our next planned event – a week with our little guy.

We had a great time! First of all, our weather was absolutely spectacular! Last year we had to spend the whole week inside because it was so hot and humid. Not this year.

Time playing outside, a trip to the local water park, playing at the playground, trips for soft ice cream and going to the movies…it was a great week! And now, after having brought Schaun home to MA this afternoon, it’s time to enjoy the fact that we are retired childless individuals!! (And I know two cats who are also very happily enjoying their quiet spaces once again!)

Tomorrow we get back to normal life…. Ahh!

Lake Placid Half Marathon June 8th

Location: Catskill, NY (High 77, Low 50)

lakeplacid2

We left bright and early from Peru – too early actually – around 5:30 am, to make the drive to Lake Placid. Lake Placid does not have a lot of free parking and we really wanted to get there early enough to snag a spot in one of the parking lots available for the runners.

It actually worked out great as we had some time to walk around the town, and we stopped by Mirror Lake to take a few early morning pictures.

The time went by faster than I had expected it to, and all too soon it was time to line up for the start of the race.

I was feeling really good about my preparation for the race and all in all was very pleased with the results. I was able to run for the first 9.5 miles or so, and then did a run/walk for the last 3 miles and change. Harry finished before Denise and I, so he was at the finish line to get a few shots of us coming in.

Another successful race under our belts!!

After getting cleaned up, we walked (slowly) to a nearby restaurant for some well-deserved nourishment!

Enjoying some downtime!

Unless something unexpected comes up, that’s it for running events for this year. Denise and I are still running 5 days a week, so we are planning to stay in shape and we are already looking forward to some fun races next year!

It’s Been a Long Time!

Location: Catskill, NY (High 76, Low 52)

IMG_2517This has definitely been my most sporadic blog summer since I started my blog back in 2010. It’s been a pretty busy summer so far, but most days we’re busy with just the normal stuff of daily life.

IMG_2515

The biggest event of the past couple weeks was our trip north to the Adirondacks last weekend for the half marathon in Lake Placid.

The first order of business was for Harry to put on his “techie person” hat at my mother’s house. Smile

On Saturday we drove over to Lake Placid to pick up our materials for the half.

We ate lunch at a restaurant with an outdoor café and a really pretty view.

And then we attended the retirement get-together for my mother, who has worked for the local doctor in my hometown for about 30 years.

Isn’t this the coolest cake ever?

After this busy day, we headed home to get some rest for our half-marathon the next morning.

But this blog is long enough, so I’ll pick up with the rest of the story in my next installment. Smile

Busy Busy Busy!!

Location: Peru, NY (High 65, Low 53)

Wow, I think this is one of the longest breaks I have ever taken since I started this blog! I always have a little more trouble coming up with trip3topics when we are sitting in one place. It’s not been because there is nothing going on though. We’ve been busy!

When I last left off, we were heading into Memorial Day weekend. We were pleasantly surprised that the campground wasn’t completely stuffed. Although trip2I’m sure that the owners would have preferred wall to wall people, the sites on either side of us remained empty. There were a lot of tenters though, and rigs in other sections of the campground. Our across the street neighbors, Bill and Gail, invited us over to share a yummy BBQ on Sunday.

That week, we had our usual stuff going on – our training runs, shopping etc. Plus Harry was working through his to-do list of items he wanted to get accomplished before our road trip.

This past Saturday we headed into Albany for our next event – the Freihofer’s Run for Women! This was my first 5k. Harry got a great picture of me and my sister Denise.

The Run for Women is a huge event with over 4100 runners!

Here I am running for the finish line! What a great time!

Yesterday it was time for our first road trip of the summer – north to Iroquois Campground in Peru, NY.

We are all settled in for the next few days. It’s going to perube another weekend with a lot going on. My mother is retiring after about 35 years working for the local doctor. He is retiring and closing his office. So we will be going to a reception for them on Saturday, and then Sunday is our half marathon in Lake Placid. So like I said in my title, we’re busy busy busy!!
