It’s Gone!

Well, not gone yet – but on the way to it. Yes, after one week on the market, Harry got a call this morning from someone who was interested in the truck! He came this afternoon to take a look at it and we now have a $200 deposit in hand!! The buyer has most of it saved, has to go to the bank to finish up the financing, but as of Monday the truck should be out of our driveway. I am so excited! I was mentally settling in for a longer wait to sell, since we had received absolutely no calls or inquiries since we posted the advertisement, and then today a sudden happy turn of events. This is our last major sale for the year.

Other than that, a normal day at work. It was busy. Harry is out buying some sandwich meat for sandwiches for dinner because it is too hot to cook. I don’t think I would mind the heat so much if it weren’t so humid. I am just grateful that the window fans cool our bedroom enough to make it pretty comfortable for sleeping.

Well, don’t know whether I will get to it tonight, but SOON I will be writing about the rest of our trip to NYC, and I still have lots to share about our trip north last weekend. :) But I did want to share our good news about the truck right away.

It’s Been a Fast Week

It doesn’t seem like it’s been so many days since I have been able to write my last post! And, not only that, but I am woefully out of touch with everybody else’s life! I have barely had a minute to look at any blogs at all. I guess I know some of what I will be doing this weekend. :)

I have to go back to work today – in about 30 minutes actually. I kind of wish I had taken today off too – it would be good to be able to relax and catch my breath. But unfortunately I did not. So this will have to be a quickie – just to let everyone know I’m still here. :)

Yesterday’s trip was very nice. We left the house at 10 after 6 and I was on the bus about 25 minutes later. We stopped in Catskill, which is about 40 minutes south of Albany, and that is where my mother and sister boarded the bus. The trip was uneventful – I read a book and we chatted a bit, so it went by fast. When we got to the city, we went to a diner that someone on the bus told us about for lunch.

This isn’t the greatest picture, because the sun was shining off the cover. But I couldn’t get a better one. Anyway, the name of the place was Ellen’s Stardust Diner. All of the waitresses and waiters are aspiring Broadway stars. So while they wait on tables, they all take turns singing. It was a very interesting place. But not one where you can talk very much – it was quite loud in there.

This guy was my favorite – he had an awesome voice.

Unfortunately, that’s all I have time for now – I will try to write more tonight!!

Home Sweet Home

Well, best-laid plans…etc etc… I had intended to start catching up on my blog earlier today when we first arrived back this morning around 11:30. We had an awesome weekend, and I have tons of pictures for my weekend’s show ‘n’ tell. So yeah, I really was going to start by writing all about our trip home on Saturday, however, we ended up running lots of errands and getting stuff done out and about. Now we have just gotten home and have about an hour before we have to head out for a work “event.” It’s the fun kind – with lots of free food, entertainment and a fireworks show at 9:15 tonight. But because of that, I’m not going to have time for any posting about events of the past few days as I planned. Tomorrow my mom, my sister, and I are going on a bus trip to NYC for a Broadway show. So I won’t be catching up tomorrow either – but I’m going to have tons to write about for probably the next five to seven days after that!! :)

Hope everyone had an awesome 4th of July! :)

We’re Talking Really Upstate NY Here

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Rod and Loyce Ivers. Rod, I’ve been loving the photos you’re taking with that new camera of yours. We may just have to get one! :) Thanks for joining us for the ride.

As I stated in my description of myself on the blog, Harry and I live in upstate NY. I am a native “Upstater”, (yeah, I just made that word up) – having lived in this part of NY my whole life. However, compared to where I grew up, where I live now would be considered downstate by people in my home town. It’s a common irritation among upstate New Yorkers that the upper half of the state seems to be somewhat forgotten. Talk to someone in New York City, and they consider upstate NY to be Westchester or Putnam counties! :) No way – I’m talking really upstate NY here!! If you look at the map below you can find Putnam county…it is WAY down by the city. If you look a few counties higher, you will see where I currently live – in a small town in Rensselaer County (and yes, it is misspelled on the map.) And now, if you look WAY up, you will see where I grew up – AuSable Forks is in Clinton County. Once you get past the top border of Clinton County, you are in Canada!!

NYcropped

So…this weekend I’m heading “upstate” to the Adirondack region of NY. (The Adirondack Park, of course, is huge, and encompasses a large part of the top part of the state – but AuSable Forks is one town in the park.) Harry and I are going up to spend the weekend with my mother, who still lives in the same house I grew up in. We’re going to spend at least part of the weekend with friends of my mom’s at Fern Lake….it should be a fun weekend. Hope to be able to get in some bike rides and read some of those books I bought! Not sure when I will be able to post again – it might be Monday or Tuesday!  But I will take lots of pictures, and catch up on our weekend as soon as I can. :)

Computer Problems

A sad turn of events yesterday for Harry’s computer….for the past week, at least, he’s been having an issue with it. He’ll be surfing the net, or reading some webpage, and all of a sudden it shuts itself off and we get that “this computer was not shut off correctly” message, and then the option to start windows normally or in safe mode. And a couple times it’s all of a sudden gone to this blue screen with lots of computer lingo basically saying the computer has crashed and then it restarts itself. Well, it did it again last night, which makes 5 times since Harry got the computer on June 15th. So he’s decided to return it to Newegg for replacement. We hope – he called the Newegg person to get a return authorization code, and he was told that they have to be able to duplicate the issue or they will return the computer to him. That is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard – why on earth would he make that up? Just for the joy of repacking the computer up and sending it back to them? So now, some Newegg guy has to surf the web for a few hours to see if the computer all of a sudden shuts itself down or does the nice blue screen crash thing. Let’s just hope it performs on cue – it’s happened quite a few times already so hopefully it will do it again for them. No pictures last night – it was so sad to watch the removing of all the computer programs, and all the reversal of the set-up and additions of the last two weeks. :(

And – no calls yet for the truck…maybe today…

No Such Luck

I pretty much expected it, but today confirmed it. There isn’t going to be a quick 24 hour sale this time! No calls today. Oh well, we will just be patient. Hopefully it will just take a week or two, or at least within the month.

It’s a little cool tonight, especially the breeze, but I am soaking it in, because starting on Saturday, we are supposed to have an extended period of 90+ days. Today was a quiet day for the most part, although I did have an unusual encounter during my walk this morning. I was just walking along, and turned a corner to see…trotting toward me…a little fawn. She (or he) was on the same side of the road as me, coming straight at me. I stopped dead, and my first thought was, man I wish I had my camera with me. And then, as she continued to trot right in my direction, my second thought was, ummm, that’s close enough (because usually Mommy is not that far away). So I crossed over to the other side of the road, and she stopped and looked at me, as if she was saying, well, what’s your problem? After she stared at me for a minute or so, I guess she decided I wasn’t much fun, and she continued on down the road. I never did see her mother, but hopefully they found each other.

It’s For Sale!

What a picture perfect day yesterday was! The weather was so beautiful – nice puffy clouds in the sky, low humidity, not too hot but not too cold either. So nice! And it cooled down really well for sleeping – it’s 50 degrees right now. Always amazes me how cool that feels once you get into the summer season, when in spring it feels so warm.

My day off was great – had some time for relaxing, but I got a lot done as well. Nothing too exciting – laundry, a trip to the post office, a trip to the store. I ventured into the book section which I rarely do….ummm, let’s just say I have a weakness when it comes to books. I wanted to get a book or two because we’re traveling this weekend and also next week I have a day trip coming up, and instead I left the store with a pile! Five to be exact. When Harry and I are traveling I plan to purchase either the Kindle or the Nook, or something else which they may come out with between now and then. Otherwise, I’d be overloading our fiver with all my books!

And then the highlight of our day….we traveled in to Albany to pick up the truck! It looks really nice.

We listed it last night on Want Ad Digest. It’s a commission based service, but we have had really good luck with it selling all of our other stuff the past few months, so we figure the commission is worth it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that you are limited to 20 words – and you can also include 4 pictures. These are the pictures we used in the ad:

The last major item that we sold was the pop-up. We posted it in the evening, like we did this time, and the calls started the next morning around 10 am. While I’m not necessarily expecting it to happen the same way this time, it sure would be nice! :)
