Another Busy Monday

Mondays are definitely my least favorite day of the week. I have to run out the door so early in the morning. I don’t get my early morning relaxation over my cup of coffee!

Harry had to go out to a meeting tonight so our Valentine’s Day dinner was takeout Chinese food. So hard to take!!

Our kitchen remodel is moving along. Today’s changes were smaller, so I will refrain from posting pictures tonight. The spice racks on the side of the microwave and stove were worked on today. And our dishwasher is out and is in the process of being replaced by our new one. That is the one thing I am going to miss. I really loved my dishwasher, but it just didn’t make sense not to replace it while the countertops were being replaced (and also while we had someone else to install it). But that’s basically it. Not too many visible changes tonight. I will post some updated pictures tomorrow.

Speaking of pictures…this morning I took some more pictures of the snow banks outside. Hopefully soon I will have some pictures to compare after it starts melting!! We are supposed to have three more warm days this week (warm meaning between 40 and 50 degrees), so it will be interesting to see how much of the snow melts by the end of the week.

Ice Banks

Today has been a busy day, but we accomplished a lot. We did start out with a leisurely morning of coffee, and our big Sunday breakfast of eggs, fried potatoes, bacon and bagels. We needed some nourishment for the job ahead of us!

Our major project for the day…

…cleaning up this driveway!!

While it may not look like much in the pictures above, under that inch or two of snow was a major amount of ice. In some areas down the driveway, it turned out to be 4 to 6 inches thick. However, we were determined to get rid of it. Or maybe I should say, remove it from the driveway. Because while it may be gone (from the driveway)…

…it will certainly not be forgotten anytime soon.

Anyone want to venture a guess what month it will be when this melts?

Ahhh! Saturday

Another Saturday has rolled around. This time last week we were at the hotel outside of Boston. It is amazing how much has changed in this one week. We have completely revamped our purchasing plans and timeline based on last week’s rv show. We are thinking about making a trip to another show in Syracuse, N.Y. on the first Sunday in March. That will be a one day trip though as Syracuse is close enough to go there and back without staying over. Of course, that will completely depend on whether it is a nice day for traveling – no storms in the outlook etc. Hopefully by then it will be warming up.

The kitchen is really coming along as well. So far the new cupboards are in – we have the fronts on all of the doors and drawers, and the hardware was added yesterday. Our upper cupboards are finished and ready for the replacement of our dishes and food items. So we can start clearing off our dining room table today! We still have quite a bit left to be done next week. Our new dishwasher is out in the garage ready to be installed, the countertop is going to be a granite countertop from the slab that we picked out on our trip to AuSable in December, a tile backsplash will be added, a new sink and new light over the sink. Also the new pullout drawer still needs to be built on the other side of the stove. So there are still a lot of changes to document over the coming days.

This should be a low key weekend. We are working in the kitchen, and we want to do the electronic filing of our taxes. We could have done them before now, but the IRS wasn’t accepting them until Feb. 14th anyway, so this is the weekend to get that done. Oh, and we will probably work on cleaning the frozen ice and snow out of our driveway because we’re actually supposed to start warming up this weekend – it’s going to be in the 30s!!! Next week, there are 40s on the horizon – woohooo!!! I’m so excited!

Wow!

Oh my goodness! I came home to such a transformation tonight. What a huge difference the hardware on the cupboards make.

We are loving our new kitchen already, and are so happy that we made the decision to have it done now, when we will be able to enjoy it for the new three years.

Work on the Kitchen Cabinets

Work on the kitchen cabinets is coming along. The doors are mostly on. They don’t have their handles yet, but still, the difference from our old cabinets is just astonishing. We are so pleased with the progress so far.

It looks like the remodel is going to go through the end of next week. Tomorrow I think we will get drawer fronts and the hardware will be added to the doors.

Time for Another Day Off

I sure do love having my day off mid-week. It breaks the work week up in a great way. Today is going to be a day of odds and ends I think. I have some errands to run, laundry to do, the usual stuff….and I am getting my rear end back to the gym today. I don’t know what it is about this cold weather that sucks the exercising energy right out of a person. But I haven’t been to the gym at all for months. So I am determined that today is the day! I would actually like to walk around my development but at a crisp 11 degrees out, it’s still a bit cool for that. (I think our high today is supposed to be 25.) As soon as the 30’s and 40’s get back, I will be getting back out there.

On the condo front, Harry went and met the heating guy yesterday so that he could take a look at the heat pump system. It’s shot. So we will be adding that replacement to the cost of getting rid of this place. Harry had called around and talked to several places and we ended up going with the one that gave us an estimate of $2850. Some of the estimates were as high as $6000. So it’s not as bad as it could have been. Hopefully this will be our last bump in the selling process and the rest will go smoothly.
