Will We Or Won’t We?

Location: Campbellsville, KY (High 62, Low 37)

The big question of the day is whether we will have mandatory OT on Friday. There is a Camperforce page on Facebook that I follow, and I read on there this morning that the shift that was supposed to have OT today got a call last night not to come in today. The rest of the week’s Inbound shifts are still on Mandatory Overtime as of right now. So as far as we know, we do…but we won’t know for sure until Thursday when we might, or might not, get a phone call telling us to stay home. I have very mixed feelings…I would love to have a nice relaxing day on Friday, but on the other hand, I really want to make the overtime money. So I guess I will just try to be happy with whichever way the wind ends up blowing.

Work went well this week. We have been receiving cases of cat food and dog food, hunting products, and a lot of toys…little action figures, barbie type dolls – like Monster High etc. (which I never heard of before I saw them here) and tons of products by Melissa and David…you know…the company that makes all those nice toys made out of wood. Let me tell you – a box with twelve to thirty of their products in it is extremely heavy. And we do probably 50 or more boxes of a company’s product at a time. Even so, I’m feeling pretty good still. Still have very tired hands and tight shoulders, but I was thinking today that it doesn’t seem to be as bad as it was a few weeks ago. They will probably get in shape…oh…I figure right around the middle of December! ;)

We don’t have too too much on the agenda for the next couple of days. We’ve had a small issue with our water heater – it’s not working on electric. I call that a small issue because thankfully it is still working fine on propane. So we have someone coming to take a look at it tomorrow. The weather is looking pretty nice so Harry wants to wash the roof. And other than that the usual…laundry, grocery shopping…all that fun stuff. We have to take care of the most necessary first…since we don’t know yet whether we have a two day or three day weekend. Oh…and it’s time for another payday again! Woot woot!! Still my favorite part of the job.

  1. Harry and Jessica,

Glad things are going well for you. Sounds like the fun is yet to come!
With that heater you might check the anode rod as when you use the water heater on electric the rod will dissolve as it helps keep the minerals from ruining the heater. These are easily replaceable.

    Good luck,

    Les

  2. Just had our hot water tank fixed for the same thing.

To add to your mixed emotions. The hours you have worked are gone from your life forever. Those are precious moments that you could be doing something else. If you were to die tomorrow would your last words be "I wish I had worked more overtime."

    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Well of course as I said, yes I would rather spend Friday sitting in my chair relaxing than going in for an extra day of work. But the job at Amazon will be for only seven more weeks, and the money that we make here will allow us to pay necessary bills for the next year so that we are able to have the higher quality of life of retirement and travel. So for this period of time, spending several days a week working is the sacrifice we make.

  3. I got the call canceling my MOT for tonight at 4:05 today. Talk about cutting it close. Well then it's back to regular week now.
