Spa Day!

For the cat that is. Smile I have made an appointment for Crookshanks to have a day at the “cat spa” tomorrow. It is his first time there, and I imagine that he will not be even remotely as pleased with this concept as Harry and I.

Here he is wondering why I’m taking his picture!

Crookshanks has a lot of long fur and now that the temperatures are starting to come up (somewhat), he is starting to shed quite a bit. So tomorrow we will be heading to Petco to make use of their grooming services. Ariel will not be making the trek to the grooming person for a couple reasons. For one thing, she is so skittish and does not like strangers at all. Plus since Ariel is a short-haired cat, she does not have a coat that needs to be brushed out like Crookshanks does. Crookshanks does seem to enjoy being brushed so he may actually enjoy himself. Maybe.

Whether he does or not, he’s going, so “after” pictures will follow tomorrow.

We’ve warmed up a little – still high 30s and low 40s – but at least the sun feels really nice coming in the windows.

Ugghh!

Yuck….boo…..hiss…etc. etc. etc.

So, if you recall, yesterday, even though we were unable to travel to the rv show, my blog entry was in celebration of rain and melting snow and just generally the fact that it was March and hopefully spring. Well, when we went to bed it was raining really hard, and then it got colder, and at some point during the night rain turned into ice, and ice turned into snow, and when we woke up this morning, we had a cold house and no power.

What happened to our nice clean driveway?

Our snow drifts are climbing again!

So I had to go off to work, and the roads were terrible, and it was still snowing cats and dogs, so Harry was very nice and drove me to work, and dropped me off. He had to stay home to keep our house warm! Two years ago, we had an ice storm and the power was out for several days, so we decided that we needed a generator to cover any such situations in the future! Today was the first day we had to use it.

IMG_4269

But we were so glad that we bought that generator back when we did. It came in so handy today.

Harry took all these pictures for me today! Smile

By the time the end of the day came, I really wanted a shower. And we weren’t sure how long the power would be out, so after Harry picked me up from work, we went to Planet Fitness and used the showers in their locker rooms. Guess that membership came in handy for something! Winking smile

Here we are “roughing” it… (AKA no television)

and Harry hooked me up with internet through my phone.

He’s so handy to have around – I think I’ll keep him!! Be right back

And now after this, a-hem…interesting day, I am happy to report that as I was writing this blog entry just now, the power came back on!!!! Thank goodness. As the temperatures are supposed to be in the single digits tonight, Harry was preparing to get up every few hours throughout the night to warm our house back up. I am so glad that won’t be necessary after all.

OK, Spring you can come back any time!

No Snow!

Here anyway. We may get a wet couple of inches overnight, but with the temps we are supposed to have, it won’t be sticking around. It has been in the 40s today, was actually 50 degrees earlier. However, I just checked weather.com and in Syracuse it is 27 degrees and snowing, so we made a good decision.

IMG_4265

We have had an extremely lazy day today. Other than having our usual big Sunday brunch this morning, and doing a couple loads of laundry, we have done nothing but hang out and watch some old movies on tv.

Our snow is actually going down! Smile

IMG_4263

I cleared the last of it off the bushes today, and they actually seem none the worse for wear.

IMG_4264

Dreary day! A good one for sitting around and relaxing…

So that’s what we’ve been doing. Open-mouthed smile

Best Laid Plans

Well depending on how you look at it, there could be good news here, or bad. The good news is that it is supposed to rain all day here tomorrow, and we are probably going to lose a lot of our snow! (We also lost some snow today with highs around 48 degrees.) The bad news is that where we live, we are on the northern edge of the storm line where rain starts turning into snow. I knew this could happen. The weather here is very changeable during the winter, and I’ve been watching the forecast all week for just this reason. As recently as this morning, the weather for Syracuse for tomorrow was calling for an early high of 43 degrees and starting to cool during the afternoon with the rain turning into snow in the late afternoon and evening. Nope, not anymore. After watching our local weather forecast tonight, I checked the forecast for Syracuse again, and it has changed since this morning. Now the rain is supposed to change to snow around 10 am there. We would only just be arriving at that time. And Syracuse is not a good place to get caught in the snow – having lived in Watertown for many years, I’ve driven in white-out conditions many times, and it is NOT fun. The forecast now for Syracuse is 4 - 8 inches during the day, and another 4 – 8 overnight. So guess what we’re not doing tomorrow? Annoyed  <sigh> oh well….time to start surfing the web looking for our next opportunity to go rv show dreaming….

Another Whirlwind Week

I almost missed blogging for a couple days this week, because it just seemed to go by so quickly! On Wednesday I had my usual day off, and I find it hard to remember what I did, although I was busy all day!

Today was just a run of the mill day at work, but again, was a busy one, that’s busy in a good way. It went by before I knew it, and now we are to the weekend. The weather looks a little uncertain for Sunday, but we are still planning on the trip to Syracuse. We might just have to head for home a little earlier instead of stopping for lunch out as we were planning….that whole rain system which might turn to ice/turn to snow issue…

We did get good news on the condo front! Our buyer has received her mortgage commitment from the bank. So we are looking forward to the end of this journey. While we don’t know this for sure, I am thinking that the mortgage commitment is for 60 days which is usually the norm. That means that we should be closing hopefully by the last week of April or first week of May. Fingers crossed

Preparing for More RV Show Dreaming

A bright sunny morning today but cold…only 11 degrees when we got up this morning. The blue sky looks really nice though.

I will be heading off to work shortly, but took a little time this morning to get ready for another RV show expedition. The CNY RV and Camping Show in Syracuse, NY starts today. Harry and I will be making the trip over there on Sunday. Syracuse is only about 2.5 hours away, so definitely close enough for a day trip. (Well, Boston is actually close enough for a day trip too, but who wants to pass up an excuse for a weekend in Boston?) Winking smile So I just finished printing out the floor plans for the three buildings they will be using and that nice $2 off coupon that you can usually get online. Coincidentally, just as I finished, I received an email from the NY Heartland Chapter Leaders letting me know what units they would be showing there. Harry and I will get a chance to meet them there, so that will be another nice benefit of traveling to this show. It’s going to be so much fun to head over there and hopefully check out some great units and see more more floor plans.

However…back to reality….I still have to get through three days of work yet, before we can go do some more RV show dreaming…

Slow Start to Spring

It seems like a disproportionate number of my blogs lately have to do with the weather, and when spring might arrive, but I just can’t help it! I am so looking forward to the day when all of this snow is gone. From reading people’s blogs, it sounds like a lot of snow cover is (hopefully) going away for the season. But not around here.

We still have A LOT of snow!

IMG_4261

The only grass to be seen around here is the teeny tiny area that Harry cleared when he was snow blowing the sidewalk.

IMG_4259

My sister and I have guessed when all of our snow will be gone – I chose the 19th of March – that was more from wishful thinking than anything else, and she guessed the 25th of March.

IMG_4260

But if it doesn’t start warming up more than it has so far, our first glimpse of real grass may be our vacation in five and a half weeks, when we travel to Tennessee for the RV rally. In fact, my vacation actually starts five weeks from today!!! I can’t believe it is so close, but I’m glad it is!! Open-mouthed smile
