Windy Night

Location: Catskill, NY (High 43, Low 15)

I have figured out one thing that I like less in our fiver – wind! Last night was a night of gusty winds, and we kept waking up throughout the night. We can hear it flapping the slide toppers, and feel a little movement of the slide when the hardest gusts hit. Not fun. We even lost power for a couple minutes, but it came right back on. The winds are supposed to calm this morning, and I will be glad!

We have been enjoying our nice balmy days. We are hoping that the ice that was on the roof will be all melted away by the time we hit the road on Tuesday.

Harry has only two more days to work. He has been spending his week doing odds and ends, and his boss checked in with him yesterday, wanting to make sure that everything he does has been parceled out to someone else. He already cleaned out his desk, so tomorrow he will just have to put on his coat and walk out for one last time. Smile

Only four more days and some hours until we get our tires on the road and start searching out some warmer weather. We are almost there!

  2. You are brave souls spending winter months in an RV. In the early 70's (when I was much younger and more resilient) I lived in a 10.5 truck camper in the interior of Alaska with -45 degree temperatures. I am not sure whether it was adventure or insanity..nonetheless, it builds strong character. Welcome to your new adventures in warm places.

  4. I just checked weather.com for your area. Sunday looks like a really great day to be traveling. Tuesday looks a little iffy to me. Remember that now that you are retired and fulltimers you don't need to be on a schedule. You can travel whenever you want - you can wait or leave early depending on the weather and other factors.

Safe travels and HAPPY FULLTIMING. :)

    1. Yes, I've been watching the weather as well. Tuesday's forecast has changed, but there is time for it to change again. lol So I am just keeping an eye on it, as well as Wed. to Friday's weather also. Living up here, it wouldn't be the first time plans changed due to weather.

  5. We have often had to pull in the slides during strong winds. Makes for less rocking and LOTS less noise.

  6. Has to be a great feeling, hopefully I will have that opportunity someday!

  7. During my last week before retiring whenever my Boss asked me anything I simply said "sure, no problem, it's all taken care of". Sure!!

One of the add-ons we didn't order for our Big Country were the slide toppers. Since the desert can get windy we knew they'd be flapping a lot so we decided not to get those.

Safe travels for your big trip.

  8. You need to get used to the wind because no matter where we've been there is always wind. We have found though that the fiver doesn't move near as much as the motorhome did in the wind and I like that. I was always pulling in the slides on the motorhome but very seldom on the fiver. Definitely keep an eye on the weather. We put off our move to Quartzsite by a day because of the wind. It's so nice not to have a time schedule.

    1. I am hoping that I get used to it soon! I don't mind it so much when I'm up. Like right now it's blowing some, and it doesn't seem so bad. But when I'm in bed sleeping it wakes me right up! (and keeps me awake too)

  9. I'm with you on the wind. Been in our RV for almost two years now, and I STILL don't like it!

  10. On my last day at work, I went in and shook a few hands and asked if there was anything I could do for anyone... And after about an hour I said good bye and left... No sense in dragging it out... Just move on... LOL
