Two days ago on our walk we happened to walk by a restaurant not even a half mile up the road.
This is the view up the road from the campground exit, and we never would have guessed that there was actually a lot going on down there – an apartment complex, an elementary school.
The side walk was really level and the traffic was much lighter than on the main road in the other direction. It made for a very pleasant walk.
And as we were walking, we went by this sign. We thought it sounded quite interesting…especially the “true southern fixings” part. So yesterday we returned to try it out for lunch. What a find!
It turned out to be a buffet of homestyle cooking….fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac n cheese, biscuits, potato salad, cabbage, fried corn nuggets, and other veggies that we didn’t sample…oh, and fresh peach cobbler for dessert. Yum. What a delicious meal!!
After that lunch, it was time for a long walk!! In total, we walked about 6 miles yesterday. I am loving the fact that we can get outside each day and get some exercise. Today, we are supposed to get some rain this afternoon, so our walking may be curtailed a bit. But in general, we’ve been so much more active since we got down here to the nicer weather. I’m looking forward to seeing my numbers when I have my next physical!!
We’ve almost been here a week now, and it’s been a great relaxing time.
the two of you seem to be 'embracing this new lifestyle'! good for you both! enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at fried chicken....yum!
ReplyDeleteNow you know why we walk!!!
Uh, that fried comfort food might be a little hard on your numbers......... I know everything in moderation.......but it really looks good!!!
ReplyDeleteIt WAS really good!! Every bit as good as it looked! :)
DeleteYum! Looks terrific. Hopefully you can still get in a walk. It's gray weather here today too, may not get to do anything :)
ReplyDeleteWe had a fast walk this morning, about 2.25 miles. That's it for today. It's damp and cold - only 34 degrees and heading for a high around 40. A good day to be a "recliner" potato!! :)
DeleteJerry said, "I'm hungry" when I read to him about your restaurant find :). For us, the more we run, the more forgiveness we get when it comes to food...ha ha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
Sure glad I had dinner before I read about your fried chicken. That really sounds good. We had rain here in the desert today but at least our temps were in the 60's.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my kind of restaurant. Looking at your trip planner it looks like you will be near Manatee Springs State Park, Chiefland, FL. We were volunteer host there in Oct and Nov. It would be worth a day trip while you are at Williston, FL. I think it is about a 15 or 20 mile drive. The ABC Pizza restaurant would be a great place to have lunch or dinner.
ReplyDeleteSure looks like you found a gem of a place to eat. I'd have to walk for hours and hours if I ever ate there!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great reading this. Sounds like us when we left Campbellsville little over a month ago. Warmer is for sure better.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes you do tend to become much more active. I've lost 40 Lbs so far.
