Trying Days

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that we were having issues with the tenant of our condo. We thought that we had resolved the issue, but unfortunately we have not. So the past two days, I have spent all my spare time researching eviction proceedings and court processes, and talking with Harry as we try to figure out what route we are going to take. I have read so many conversations on forums, as people contemplate whether they should sell or rent their house. They always make it sound so easy – the process of finding a good tenant who is going to pay their rent on time and not damage your property. If you are trying to decide which path to take, let me tell you our experience. We have tried to rent the condo two different times, and neither time has work out for us. I find the whole process so stressful. We know this is not a good time to try to sell, but we have decided that we don’t really have any options. We are tired of this whole revolving door process. It sure has been a discouraging couple of days. We both are so looking forward to the days when we have NO mortgages to deal with!

  1. Sorry to hear about the condo issues :( People keep telling me 'why don't you just rent if you can't sell?' It's never that easy :) Renters have that 'it's not MY property' attitude.

Good luck with the whole eviction thing too.

  2. My mother had an up and down duplex. She had renters upstairs most of the time. Some were good, but most ended their time with a problem of one sort or another.

Hope you can sell the condo for a decent price and be done with it!

  3. Renting can be a real problem and is the reason why so many folks are willing to give up some revenue to turn the problem over to property management company to deal with. Good luck with whatever path you decide to take.

  4. yes..some renters do have that mentality which is a real shame because their are some good renters out there..you just haven't found them yet!!..we wish you luck with the eviction process..that in itself is not easy either!

  5. Sorry to hear about your rental problems. Rented our house to the same person for 9 years - she never asked for anything, paid on time, didn't wreck the place. Next renter stayed two weeks, moved out without letting me know, thankfully didn't do any damage, but left bags of trash in the basement instead of taking them to the street. Considered that I had good luck for 9 years, decided to update it and sell it. It's such a gamble with renters. Good luck in resolving your problems.

  6. Sorry to hear about your renter issues.

Good luck selling once you evict the tenant.

Personally I don't think I could rent to anyone, I would lose it if they damaged anything!

Having no mortgage is something I am aspiring too as well!

    Cheers!
