Small Speed Bump in Today’s Plan

IMG_2435

After having a nice breakfast this morning, we headed out to tackle removing the shed foundation.

IMG_2436There was a lot of blue stone on the left hand portion. The shed has been in this spot for a long time, maybe 25 years or even a little more, so the stone was mixed in with dirt and buried. There were several inches of stone. We brought maybe 8 to 10 wheelbarrow loads of stone over to the deck.

Harry shoveled it all under the deck and made a nice layer of blue stone.

It looks really nice.

Once we had the majority of the stone cleared away, it was time to tackle the floor.

Harry used his circular saw to cut across the floor so the wood would be in manageable pieces.

The floor is now in a nice pile ready to be carried over to a bagster. (As you can see in the background, our other two bags were not picked up on Friday. We’ll be glad when they’re gone.)

Once we had the floor cleared away, we started removing the bricks that had supported the floor. They are very heavy! You can see in the background of this picture where we are creating a short wall with the bricks.

IMG_2452We are going to cover them with solid cement blocks that we also have hanging around. The plan is to smooth out this area, add a few bags of topsoil, and then seed it with wildflowers. However, this is where we hit the small speed bump.

As Harry was taking a step, he moved just right, or just wrong actually…and felt a twinge in his back. His back does bother him occasionally, so we try to take it slow, bend from the knees, do all those good things. But unfortunately, today that didn’t completely work. So now we are taking a break for the rest of the day, and Harry is relaxing after a hot shower with a good dose of painkillers in him.

IMG_2443We did accomplish one other thing today. We have been gradually switching out wall outlets from the standard cream color ones to a wood style. We have done almost the whole house. Yesterday we went to Home Depot and bought several more. So Harry switched those out.

and after…

I really like the way they look.

We have five outlets left and the whole house will be done.

Time to relax for the rest of the day. That wasn’t the original plan, but I’m gonna roll with it. In love

  1. Good idea to relax the rest of the day. Those pesky backs will get you when you least expect it...or need it!!! Always an inopportune time!
    Hope it's short-lived.
