January Thaw

Location: Catskill, NY (High 37, Low 15)

I don’t know if this happens everywhere, but most winters up here in upstate NY, we have what’s called a January thaw. It’s IMG_3785usually just a short respite of mild weather before the real cold comes in! But we are extremely lucky this year that it looks like it’s going to be the weather we experience our last week before we get the heck out of the icebox! Today for instance…our average high is 30 degrees, but we are going to have a balmy 42 instead. Sounds awesome to me.

After checking out the weather forecast IMG_3826for our route for next week, we will definitely be leaving on Tuesday, going as far as our first stop in Pennsylvania, where we will stay on Wednesday for what looks to be some rain, and then continue on the next leg on Thursday. Our first two days will be long driving days for us – of 5, 6 hours. That’s about as long as we can do with the “kids”.

IMG_3835So far this has been a week of eating out, dinners with friends before we head south for a few months. Last night was another one, at a restaurant in Albany. And I am very happy that I have not gained a pound back. Smile

Just about time for Harry to head to work for his last working Tuesday…and six days until we hit the road!!

    2. And, yes, I was talking about the cats. :) After about 4 and a half hours, they start to complain!

  2. You're almost to the point where you can start counting hours instead of days. Yippee. After 5 or 6 hours it's not only our girls that are starting to complain. My whole body says enough.

  3. Good for you on not gaining any weight back. Even though this is what you have worked so hard to do, it can be a stressful time. Making good choices in restaraunt meals can be hard, but well worth it. Savor the company more than the food.

  4. Woohoo! Looks like things are all coming together. Be so nice to get out of that white stuff and on to a bit warmer temps.

  5. We're originally from northern Illinois and remember well how 42 was considered balmy in January. It won't be long now until you'll be far, far away from that "balmy" weather.
